Traditional Arts Apprenticeshp Program Comics

As a part of our National Endowment for the Arts funded Vermont Cartooning and Culture Project we partnered with cartoonist Iona Fox to create a series of comics about the Vermont Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program for her Almanc strip in Seven Days.

Iona visited with Tibetan dranyen player Migmar Tsering, French-Canadian fiddling student Isabella Rottler, and Somali Bantu drummer and drum maker Mohamed Bulle—where she listened, asked questions and sketched. She then went home and created draft versions of the comics that she shared with each of the musicians to gather feedback. From their responses she created the final versions, which were all published in Seven Days over the winter and spring.
